Welcome to the Optima Lab!

We are a research team exploring the cutting edge of high-performance optoelectronic devices and large-scale photonic integrated circuits. Our lab is based at Northeastern University’s Oakland campus, the flagship West Coast location nestled in the vibrant innovation hub of the San Francisco Bay Area and closely tied to the entrepreneurial spirit of Silicon Valley. Our mission is to push the boundaries of photonic innovation and create impactful solutions to today’s challenges.

Open positions

Ph.D. positions: We are currently offering Ph.D. positions for Spring/Fall 2025 with research opportunities in 1) silicon photonics; 2) on-chip single photon avalanche diodes; and 3) optical accelerators. Please feel free to reach out via email: y.yuan@northeastern.edu.

Admission to the program and requirements: all prospective students must meet the department requirements for the graduate program. Please see the department graduate program details page for new applicants.

Postdoctoral positions: A postdoctoral position may be available for candidates with a strong background in optoelectronics and experience in fabrication, simulation, and experimental techniques. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact me via email.

Visiting scholar positions: Our research group is always open to hosting visitors. Self-funded stays can be arranged, while sponsored opportunities depend on available funding. If you’re interested in collaborative research, please feel free to reach out via email.
